Chip and Joanna Gaines have officially donated $1.5 million to St. Jude Children's Hospital since announcing this year's Chip-In Challenge, a charity fundraiser the HGTV stars have been hosting for the past few years. The pair presented the hospital with a check on June 19, and gifted the nearby St. Jude Target House with a massive playhouse they personally designed for the kids.

“When we heard that the space outside of Target House could use a little love, we knew right away that we wanted to create a sweet playhouse for the kids to enjoy,” Joanna said at the event, according to People. “There’s something so special about spending time together outside and while we’re hopeful that these families will not have to stay here for very long, we wanted to create a retreat for them to explore while they are here.”

During the Chip-In Challenge, the couple announced they'd also be making a donation to the Brave Like Gabe Foundation, in honor of their late friend Gabe Grunewald. In a June 12 Instagram post, Chip Gaines wrote that through people's generosity, the Challenge was able to donate $1.49 million to St. Jude and an additional $512,000 for Brave Like Gabe. "This campaign is proof that when we all work together for something bigger than ourselves, anything is possible," he said.

A few months back we were gifted with a celebrity friendship I never knew I needed: Joanna and Chip Gaines, plus Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez. A few short months since the squad took their relationship to the next level by hanging out in Waco, Chip Gaines announced his newest project with the fellow power couple and other celebrity friends, and it's for an incredible cause.

This year's Chip-In Challenge is focused on raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Back in 2017, Chip helped raise $230,000 for St. Jude, and this year's goal is to top that. Since, of course, raising more than 230 grand is "a tall order," Chip called in some reinforcements. And that's where J.Lo and A.Rod come in—along with Drew Barrymore, Kacey Musgraves, Florida Georgia Line, Jessie James Decker, Lauren Daigle, Kevin Love, and Taylor Calmus.

In heartbreaking news, the same week the challenge was announced, it was shared that Chip's marathon trainer, Gabriele Anderson Grunewald (also known as Gabe)—who had been battling a rare form of cancer for nearly ten years—had gotten sicker overnight.

"I understand that Gabe is not a patient at St. Jude, but right now, she is fighting for her life. Cancer is ugly and it is mean and it doesn’t fight fair. This has gotten extremely personal," Chip wrote in an Instagram post In it, he promised to match all donations made to the Chip in Challenge by midnight last night, with a goal of hitting $500,000. Additionally, he said he would also double that amount "in the form of a donation to the Brave Like Gabe Foundation, in Gabe's honor."

As of this moment, supporters have collectively helped raise over $940,000. That's nearly $1 million, almost four times the original goal, and practically double what they raised last night. Though originally donations were supposed to end yesterday, it looks like the Chip in Challenge site is still accepting donations.

Here's How it Works

  1. Head over to chipinchallenge.com and click DONATE WITH ME under one of the celebrity's photos. You should choose whoever helped get you to the donation page, but in this case, select whoever you hope will "win"—or help earn the most money.
  2. Once you click the donation button, chip in $5 or more to give to St. Jude.

That's it! Did I mention Chip's in the lead with people donating over $857K in his name?
